About the book
Fifth grader Amy Prochenko is wildly unpopular. Then one day Amy meets Sherlock, a dog on the run from a university lab. Sherlock is not like other dogs: He can talk, he's smarter than most of Amy's classmates--and he needs Amy's help. Suddenly Amy's life is full of danger and excitement, and she finds she is becoming, of all things, popular. Best of all, she discovers in Sherlock the sort of friend she's always longed for--and one she must protect no matter what the cost.
She’s his only hope. Can one fifth grader save the smartest dog in the world?
- A Talking Dog with a Secret: Sherlock isn’t just smart—he’s a runaway from a secret lab experiment, and he can talk. Now, the scientists want him back.
- An Unlikely Friendship: Wildly unpopular Amy has always wanted a true friend. She just never expected him to have four paws and a tail.
- Fifth Grade School Story: Hiding a talking dog is hard enough, but Amy also has to deal with her suddenly skyrocketing popularity and the meanest girl in school.
- Heartwarming and Funny: A laugh-out-loud and touching adventure about loyalty, courage, and protecting your best friend, no matter what.
