About the book
The book is a collection of papers discussed at a symposium on “Human Rights in Islam” over the course of three days. The symposium was called by the Foundation in order to bring to light those rights that have been lost or are largely unknown as principles of human rights in Islam. The opening paper was on Human Rights in Social Solidarity, followed by the paper on jihād in Islam: The First Guarantee of Human Rights. Next, Public Rights and Freedoms in Islam. Then came a paper on ‘International Organisations’ Stands on Crimes Against Humanity: an Islamic Perspective’. It was followed by: Health as a Human Right, then The Rights of Non-Muslims in an Islamic Society’. Lastly the paper to be delivered was: Organising for the Protection of Human Rights. Shaykh Ahmad Zaki Yamani presented a paper on Equality between Women and Men in Islam.
It became clear from the papers that much of what the West considers to be human rights was indeed amongst the fundamental obligations in the Muslim system of beliefs.
